Not a metaphor. Not an exaggeration.

If you don’t pay, the government ruins your life.

Sounds less like civic duty, more like the Camorra.

I’m not against funding roads or basic services.

I’m against the way it’s done.

Taxing income is the worst version of it.

You trade your time and energy for money, then they take a cut before you even see it.

You work. They collect.

The fairer option is taxing consumption.

You keep 100% of what you earn.

And you only pay when you spend.

Want the cheap bottle of wine? Small tax.

Want the €10,000 wine? Big tax.

That’s how it should work.

Simple. Transparent. Voluntary.

No need for accountants either, especially in the age of AI.

Yes, governments would collect less.

But maybe that’s the point?
