Crossing Between Malta & Gozo in a Hurricane

The day I had to come down for grandma’s funeral (that was a Monday) turned into one of those days that feels like a movie, only without the glamour.

Massive storms were battering Malta. Ferries were getting cancelled. Terminals destroyed. Roads flooded.

There was a very real chance I’d get stuck and not make it in time. And with the timing being what it was, Simon would’ve been left completely alone with Zuzu.

Somehow, I managed to cross over to Gozo in time for the funeral. But then the weather got even worse, and we had no choice but to extend our stay another night.

The island was basically cut off.

When we finally got the green light to return, it took us four hours of waiting before we managed to get on a ferry back to Malta, but we made it.

A wild few days. Emotionally, logistically, everything.
