I keep seeing videos on X of companies outsourcing receptionists and cashiers to third-world countries via webcam.
You walk into a shop.
A screen lights up.
And someone thousands of miles away greets you through a webcam.
I can’t tell if this is smart capitalism or just disgraceful.
It’s efficient. But it feels hollow.
Humiliating for the employee.
Awkward for the customer.
A bit dystopian for everyone.
This isn’t good capitalism.
It’s just squeezing the last drop of cost out of a human interaction.
I’m all for automation.
But if we still need people, maybe let them show up in person.
Because this, this isn’t it.
